Gluten-Free Go Box
Traveling with Celiac Disease requires an immense amount of research and time. You have to prepare for every scenario, most of which involve food you canāt eat. If staying in a rental with kitchen equipment, you have to bring your own for your Celiac. On our road trip, these items were essential to ensuring our daughter could eat safely throughout. We were able to eat out safely, but most breakfasts were in the room. We bought snacks and ingredients along the way; we did not use a cooler very often, although we did bring a small one. Even if you are planning a short trip, I would encourage you to always pack a box for peace of mind. Pack what makes sense for you!
The crates- traveling with plastic totes is a game-changer. You can stack them, and they take up less space. We also brought a collapsible crate. We used one to place them between the kidsā seats, so they always had snacks at hand. And one in the back to be used as needed.
PC condiments in tupperware- I bought mayo, mustard, ketchup, relish, tamari, and hot sauce PC packs and put them in long, shallow containers. We all used these, and it was one of the best purchases for the trip.
Mini Waffle Maker- I love this one by Dash. We ended up buying two, in different colors, so we could make waffles for breakfast.
Spatulas- silicone/plastic spatulas are a no-go unless they are dedicated gluten-free ones
Cutting Boards- this is a MUST. We bought this three-pack and brought the small one.
Toaster Bags- we use these at home too. Anything going into a toaster oven or regular toaster that contains gluten should be in a toaster bag. They work so well
Saute/Frying Pan- a small, nonstick pan. Donāt use any in a rental that has scratches, itās not safe
Colander- we brought one small colander with us to wash fruit/veg
Knife- since I knew weād be cooking in a hotel room, I brought along my own knife just in case!
Tuna Packs- these were amazing for hikes! We could add mayo & relish to make a quick tuna salad
Almond Crackers- our all-time favorite cracker, and widely available
Chomps Sticks- super portable, comes in different flavors
